Part 1: Freshman-Sophomore Year

- Clearing up myths on college rankings and admissions
- Why researching college campuses is vitally important to finding colleges right for you
- How to research and select colleges
- The importance of college visits and how to plan your campus tours
- PSAT and SAT or ACT testing considerations: timing, prepping, and re-testing
- Receive personalized feedback on Sophmore-Senior year course selections, CSU/UC eligibility, admission testing etc.
- Receive personalized recommendations on colleges campuses to research and visit
- Review of student extra curricular activities

- Discussion of the ultimate goal: having options come spring of senior year
- Categorizing your college apply list into safety, target, and reach colleges
- Working towards finalizing your apply list
- Organizing your application information and beginning applications
- SAT or ACT test prep guidance
- Calendaring Junior-Senior year tasks
- What to expect on college applications
- The details on applications: CSU, UC, Common Application including review of the college application components
- Focus on student activities: what to include and how best to detail
- Receive review and detailed feedback on paper application assignments
- Guidance in writing unique and effective essays
- Focus on UC and Common Application guidelines, but CLP advisors will personalize to students college selections
- Discussion of how and why admissions essays differ from typical high school essays
- Stressing the importance of the individual student voice, character and passion
- Practice essay brainstorming exercises on topics and content development
- Walk out with a first rough draft completed and ready for initial detailed feedback- feedback provided within 1 week
- College visitation planning

- Ongoing communications via email and phone as needed. Students and parents can contact us with questions and issues as they arise. This continues through the research process, developing the apply list, completing applications, writing essays, and making final decisions.
- Parent Information Night: The goal of the evening is to present an overview of our course, to review deadlines, key resources, financial aid introduction, and tips for helping your students. Q&A time is provided and is an extremely valuable portion of the evening.
- Student and Parent Assignments: The goal is to guide you both through this decision-making journey in timely and manageable steps.
